SINGLE REVIEW: Reuben – "Blamethrower"
Reuben have always come across as having a bit of a split personality; on one hand they can be full of joyously dumb pop thrills, on the other they can be as bleak as a wet day in January – “Blamethrower” manages to cover all bases. It’s got jump-up-and-down guitars, and a chorus that bounces like a cheque from MG Rover. Meanwhile, there’s an angry spoken-word rant and scathing social commentary. Singer Jamie Lenman roars throughout like musical schizophrenia isn’t the only psychological problem in his band. Let’s hope the men in white coats don’t come too soon though; this is the best thing the Surrey rockers have done yet.
